LUCY’S CAFE
Project Overview
ACE Fire Services recently completed the design and installation of a new fire detection and alarm system at Lucy’s Café in Warrington, Cheshire.
The works were recommended following a Fire Risk Assessment which identified improvements required to meet current life safety standards. The premises comprises a ground floor commercial café with a residential flat above — increasing the level of life protection required.
The Challenge
Mixed-use buildings present additional considerations. Where commercial premises sit below residential accommodation, enhanced detection coverage and careful system design are essential to protect both customers and occupants above.
A key concern for the client was aesthetics. As a welcoming café environment, visible cabling and poorly positioned equipment would have detracted from the atmosphere.
The Solution
Using over 20 years of industry experience and guidance from BS5839-1:2025,
ACE Fire Services designed and installed:
C-Tec CFP conventional control panel
Apollo automatic detection throughout the ground floor
Manual call points positioned in accordance with travel distance requirements
Compliant fire alarm zone plan
Sympathetic cable routing to minimise visual impact
The Outcome
The completed installation provides enhanced life safety protection, compliance with current British Standards and a discreet finish that blends seamlessly into the café environment.
Lucy commented on how well the system has integrated into the space, with customers unlikely to even notice its presence.
